About this production
Based on the characters created by Hugh Lofting in the beloved Doctor Dolittle books, first published in 1920, the musical follows the story of the 1967 film starring Rex Harrison as the eponymous doctor who learns to talk to the animals. It takes the audience on a magical journey from the small English village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh to the far flung corners of the the world, in search of the Great Pink Sea Snail – the oldest and wisest creature on earth. The show begins with Doctor Dolittle accused of murder! Enlisting the help of Matthew Mugg, Emma Fairfax and Tommy Stubbins, along with his animal friends, Polynesia the parrot, Jip the dog, Gub-Gub the pig and Chee-Chee the monkey, the good Doctor sets out to prove his innocence.
